Died March 26, 1902, in Saxonburg, PA
He was born in Saxony, Germany and was the son of Godfrey and Augusta (Quass) Reinhold who were natives of the same place. Gottfried immigrated to St. Louis, Missouri, in 1849, and after a year went to the gold fields of California where he engaged in mining for four years with much success. In 1854, he traveled from California to Saxonburg, Butler County, PA and purchased a farm. It originally contained fifty-nine acres, but he added additional land to grow the farm to seventy-one acres. He also purchased forty-seven acres of coal land in Buffalo Township and three homes on the south side of the borough of Butler.
On February 22, 1855, he married Mary Krumpe, daughter of John M. Krumpe, a pioneer of Clinton Township. Mary and Gottfried had eight children; W. Godfrey, who married Maria Poltz; John; Herman; Edward; Mina, wife of George Fredley; Louisa, wife of John Riemer; Emma, wife of Charles Beckman; and Tillie.
In 1859, Gottfried became a citizen of the United States. He was a member of the German Lutheran Church, the Knights of Pythias - Herder Lodge #279, and was a member of the Democratic Party.
Gottfried
pasted away on March 26, 1902, in Saxonburg Pa. He's buried in the Central Cemetery,
North Annex - Lot 31 in Saxonburg.
