Edward enlisted at the age of 14 and mustered out with the unit June 13, 1865. He wrote a letter home to his father on April 10th 1865 from Washington, DC about the surrender of General Lee. Even though he isn't listed as a musician on the roster, a drum has been passed down through the family that is said was to be his during the war. Nine years after the war he cut himself on a rusty nail sticking out from inside a barrel, developed lock jaw and passed away.
