Buried: Pleasant Hill Cemetery, West Leechburg, PA.

Daniel was the forth of 12 children born to Daniel Sober and Elizabeth Spiker Sober. The family lived in Allegheny Township on a 325 acre farm deeded in 1798 near present day Leechburg, PA.

Daniel married Jane Ann Duff in 1869 and raised 11 children. He was well known blacksmith and farmer and was very active in public service, holding every office in the Herbon Lutheran Church.

On September 10, 1864 Daniel joined the 6th Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery. He was joined by his two brothers, George M. Sober and David Sober.

Daniel wrote a diary detailing military actives, weather, physical condition, food, and general everyday life serving in the Civil War. This diary is transcribed here or may be viewed on file at The Carlisle Military History War College Institute, Carlisle, PA.
