Club Activities

Field Day 2006

This year the club operated from the grounds of the George Washington National Masonic Memorial in Olde Towne Alexandria, VA. We didn't operate for several hours while severe lightning and thunderstorms passed through the area but our scores were decent all the same. The communications trailer was put to good use, we had a number of visiting hams who stopped by and operated and we enjoyed quite a bit of walk-in traffic curious to learn about amateur radio.

George Washington Birthday Parade 2006

Members of the club were joined by other area hams in providing communications support prior to the parade. A few fun-loving members also marched along with our communications trailer, handing out flyers and magnets while promoting interest in the club and our hobby. Jack Hranicky (K5OTZ) dressed as George Washington and waved from the back of Don Smith's (KI4FON) truck.

Deanna Lutz (K7DID), Art Lutz (K5DID) of the Alexandria Radio Club along with Ian McCuistion (KG4SCG) of the Mount Vernon Radio Club enjoy some cold pre-parade fun.

Jack Hranicky (K5OTZ) did an awesome job as George!

ARC's Rick Bunn (N4ASX) really can send packet from under there!

Marshall DeBerry (KI4MWP) and Randal Browning (KB3IWA) (not pictured) introduced this young fellow to the fun of ham radio.

Great view of the trailer and antenna display along with George Washington (Jack Hranicky (K5OTZ)) and Deanna Lutz (K7DID). Deanna rigged up her greyhound Amber with a 2 meter antenna working 'greyhound mobile'. Amber also sported signs promoting the club.

The view down the street. That's Marshall DeBerry (KI4MWP) on the left and John Stanton (WB3FQD) working the crowds along the parade route.

Thanks also to the following not pictured: Randal Browning (KB3IWA), Ian Keith(N8IK), Harry Jones (N4CWP), Rick Adamy (KA4GFY), Art Pond (KD4FBT), Miles McGinniss (KI4IFP), Hal Miller (KC4ZYP) and Saunders Moon, (KD4LEL) along with all the other volunteers who worked to make the day a fun success.
