| ARRL Amateur Radio Field Day
2007 The Armed Forces Retirement Home Amateur Radio Association (AF3RH),
located in the heart of the District of Columbia, will host a Field Day effort
for interested Metro DC Amateur clubs, groups, and individuals. Our campus
is located on 270+ acres in the heart of DC and offers some distinct advantages.
- A huge open space for multiple stations. Probably 250 X 400 yards.
- A secure, fenced Federal facility, on some of the highest ground in DC.
Access to our Scott Dining facility for meals. We've got to eat.
- Limited
tent and small pop-up camper space for those that enjoy a little comfort while
in-the-field. Bring the family.
- Close latrine facilities open 24/7. When
you've got to go, you've got to go.
- A very low-noise environment.
The
old saying that "many hands make light work" is certainly true, so we'll need
volunteers to head several committees. Please e-mail at kh6ilr@yahoo.com
if you're interested in being a part. When we're sure there is sufficient interest,
'l'll set the date for an initial feasibility meeting to decide basic parameters
such as call sign, number of transmitters, class of entry, etc.. We'll
then set a meeting to appoint Committee Chairs and assign specific tasks. I'm
a strong believer is the "rule of three". A Chairperson for the Safety Committee
and two additional members. We all lead very busy lives with many obligations
that control us, rather than the other way around. If a key team member has to
opt out, there is back-up so that the effort can continue. Please spread
the word among ham friends, clubs and groups. We operated as W3FOC during the
2005 field day and placed Second place, nation-wide in our class, while just having
fun. We even took some down time for meals and sleeping. I'd like to make
this years Field Day a fun event where everyone, especially new and prospective
hams, can learn from us old folks. Allan Hubbert, KH6ILR Trustee,
